Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the direct effect of organizational bullying on mental health, after controlling the effect of two mediating variables (occupational stress and social support), from the perspective of employees in public sector organizations in Jordan. The population of the study included all employees in public sector organizations in Jordan, and the number of them was (234.044) employees. The sample of the study included (407) employees. The results of the study have shown that the statistically significant relationship was found between organizational bullying and mental health after controlling the effect of the two mediating variables (occupational stress and social support). The results of the study also showed that all of the dimensions of organizational bullying (verbal bullying, exclusion & isolation and task‑related stress) were statistically significantly related to mental health while the fourth dimension (attacks on professional reputation) hasn’t any effect on mental health. The study recommended building multilayered social support and designing out role stressors.
